During the fall semester of 1989, a group of young women came together and established an interest group on the campus of William Paterson University. In hopes of becoming members of the illustrious organization of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., the members of Alpha Images worked under the supervision of Pi Xi Omega Chapter located in Paterson, NJ. Pi Iota Chapter was chartered on June 6, 1990 with thirteen women willing to serve and provide supreme service to all mankind.

In addition to adhering to the sorority's corporate program initiatives, Pi Iota provides high quality service projects geared toward campus unity and diversity. Through the years, Pi Iota received accommodations for the campus organization with the “Highest-Grade Point Average”, “Most Innovative Community Service Project”, “Greek Member with the Highest GPA” and, most recently, “William Paterson University's Outstanding Sorority of the Year Award” in 2017. Today, Pi Iota Chapter holds the record for the longest Historically Black Greek letter organization to maintain active membership on the campus of William Paterson University. Pi Iota Chapter continues to be a force to behold!
